Richmond Manor Design

Where moody traditional meets modern functionality

Belief

Richmond Manor Design was built on one conviction: a room should make you swoon the moment you walk in. The aesthetic draws from English manor tradition: millwork, herringbone, deep jewel tones, natural stone, spaces weighted with heritage and luxury. But every design is rooted in your home specifically: what it's already asking to become, and how you actually live within it. When those align, you walk into your finished room feeling at ease, in awe, and completely at home.

About Richard

The designer behind Richmond Manor Design

My Spark

Richard Muncaster in a space he designed

I've been designing spaces since I was a child, long before I knew I'd become a designer. I built tiny rooms for my sister's Barbie dolls, staged puppet shows and theater productions for anyone who would watch, and discovered, very early on, that arranging a space to create a feeling was an innate passion.

World travel deepens that passion. I'm always moved by boutique hotels that transport you to a period, set a mood, and make me feel something in my soul. London's grand hotels in Mayfair and Kensington, the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York, and the St Regis capture that quality and atmosphere I want to bring into your home.

My Journey

Design inspiration

Inspired by the color and texture inside The Gritti Palace, Venice

That passion led to a Bachelor's in Design, nine years in the fashion industry, eight years in music industry advertising and branding, and as a Lighting Director for live music productions (where I discovered how light can curate a feeling and a mood), followed by thirteen years in technology as a Principal Product Manager building design-focused experiences used by millions, including Tinder. The same thread ran through every chapter: how can I create an experience that makes someone feel?

Interior design is where my experiences find their home.

My Philosophy

I founded Richmond Manor Design to bring a specific feeling into your home. Growing up in England and southern Africa, my British roots are the foundation. I'm drawn to the aesthetics of English manors: the intricacies of millwork, herringbone, the depth of natural stone, deep jewel tones, William Morris prints, wallpaper, spaces weighted with heritage and luxury. My studio takes its name from my maternal grandmother Richmond, a creative soul who saw beauty in everything and never stopped inspiring me.

Every space I design rests on three pillars: the character your home dictates and deserves to be honored, a sensibility shaped by my heritage and a reverence for luxury boutique hotels, and the way you actually live within it. When these converge, you walk into your finished room feeling at ease, in awe, and completely at home.

My Difference

What I bring that most designers don't is full accountability for the project, not just the design. A product manager and an interior designer are, at their core, doing the same job: carrying the creative direction, defining the scope, setting the timeline, managing the budget, coordinating the trades, communicating every step, and owning the outcome. I've done that professionally for thirteen years. Now I do it for your home.

Services

A renovation asks more of you than most people anticipate: a design to get right, contractors to coordinate, materials to source and track, and decisions that can't wait, all while your regular life keeps moving.

You shouldn't have to carry any of that alone. That's my job.

What most designers offer is the design. What I offer is accountability for the whole project, from concept to finished room. Most projects benefit from all three services below. Each is available separately for clients with a more defined scope.

Design

Every project begins with the life lived inside your home. Before anything is drawn, I spend time understanding how you use the space, what isn't working, and how you want it to feel. The result is a complete design built around you, so when construction begins, the hard decisions are already made.

In-home consultation to understand your home and how you live in it
Moodboard and concept presentation
Floor plans, elevations, and full material and finish specifications
Kitchen and bathroom specialization: cabinet layouts, appliance specifications, fixture locations
Budget estimate for project execution included
Remote and e-design available for clients outside Northern California

Project Direction

A beautiful design only becomes a beautiful room when someone stays accountable through construction. Most renovations don't fail because of a bad design. They fail because no one is managing the details. No one is collaborating closely with trades and builders to execute and reflect the design intent when a trade cuts a corner, materials arrive damaged, or a contractor makes a decision that can't be undone. That's the gap I own.

Contractor and trade coordination as your advocate
Site visits to verify the work meets the design standard, and to hold trades accountable when it doesn't
Real-time decision making when surprises surface to protect the design intent without pulling you into every conversation
Timeline tracking with regular progress updates
Final styling and coordination to bring the design to life

Materials & Sourcing

Sourcing the right materials is only half the job. Getting them to your project on time, in perfect condition, and ready to install is the other half, and it's where most projects quietly lose weeks. I manage the entire process so you never have to chase a vendor, track an order, or deal with a damaged delivery on your own.

Sourcing across tile, stone, hardware, fixtures, and furnishings
Order management and delivery timeline tracking across all vendors
Delivery inspection: flawed and damaged items are far more common than clients expect
Returns and exchanges handled without disrupting the project timeline
Ongoing updates so you always know where every order stands

Kind Words

From those I've had the pleasure to serve

"I never understood the complexity and juggling needed to manage the design, finding and ordering materials, managing timelines, handling product damages and exchanges, and most importantly managing personalities across trades. Richard juggled all these while continually advocating for the quality and aesthetic he knew I desired. I couldn't have done it without him."

~ Linda M

"Richard always impresses me with his meticulous attention to detail. I think this skill will be something that more clients will really appreciate about him. They can have trust in the fact that he will be paying attention to all the little things and not just 'getting the work done'. He is a creative, he's passionate, he cares deeply about his work, and he advocates for what you need every step of the way."
